KERSTIN L. HOVLAND

Kerstin Larissa Hovland is a programmer, experimental animator and interdisciplinary artist. Hovland received a MFA from California Institute of the Arts and a BFA in Visual Communication and minor in Computer Science from Iowa State University. As an artist with a background in computer engineering, Kerstin Larissa Hovland’s work integrates art, animation, and performance to express complex scientific and mathematical systems in an accessible and engaging manner. Her work seeks to empower her audience to question, create, and ultimately determine their technological future by engaging a dialogue between math, science and creativity. She has shown work and performed at The Contemporary Austin Museum, The Ruhrtriennale, The Center for Living Arts in Mobile, Alabama, and the Musser Art Center in Muscatine, Iowa. She has also served as adjunct faculty in both the Video for Performance and Art & Technology programs at California Institute of the Arts. Hovland is a co-founder and creative director at Electronic Countermeasures, LLC.
